About me
Hello there!

Hello there! My name is Anıl Gökdemir and I love Star Wars 3, it's the perfect meme mine.
Welcome to my website. I intend to use this site as a business site + a personal blog, so be sure to visit the right places while looking at the titles. The text below is more like a life story than a summarisation of what I do. If you intend to read about my professions, skip to the summary.
I'm a born Berliner, raised in Ankara and maturing in Berlin.
I've been working ever since I'm 5 (2001). My father took me to the street markets. I've been selling all kinds of things from then until 2006.
We hosted the World Cup in 2006, so that was my first encounter to international customers. But as a 10 year old, my english was very limited. But it worked out and I got the experience+the money, so...
After the sommer vacation of that year, we moved to Turkey, Ankara. And my new chapter in life began.
My father was the manager of a call center back then, and guess who could work there all summer... I still don't get how so many people heard my voice and didn't hang up on me, because I would never buy magazines from a child on a phone. But yeah, I did wonders and bought myself the new Galatasaray jersey of that year. And many many toys...
I'm a huge football fan by the way.
My father became a translator in 2009 and changed his office from a call center to a translations office Back then, Berliner Grup Türkiye was only "Berliner Tercüme & Danışmanlık" meaning Berliner Translations & Consultancy.
That change obviously changed my profession too. I was only 13 back then, but I could translate documents from turkish to german and the other way around. My father would control them, fix them if there were any mistakes and then just sign them. Because his controls and corrections made them obviously "his" work.

I worked in almost all of my summer vacations in the office. And helped sometimes during the year with some translations too. I was a casual gamer and spent my money on stupid online games back then. No regrets tho.
During my summerbreak between 10th and 11th class, we went to the turkish-bulgarian boarder in Kapikule and we consulted people on paid retirement. I think we worked there for more than 2 months. It was tiring but also fun, and the money was good. My experiences there were the most critical salesman experiences I've had, until that point of my life.
But back then, I never really thought about what I'd do after I graduate and I always joked about becoming a professional boxer. I forgot to mention that I was a licensed boxer for many years, back at that point. If memory serves right, I changed from boxing to kickboxing that year, because my club changed gyms and moved to a too far away location. Boxing is and was always my favourite sport but I enjoyed kickboxing too. And I'm really glad for everything my new teacher taught me. I became his student during either 10th or 11th class and trained under him until 2018, until I left Turkey for Germany.

Our team in Kapikule, we were handing out water to the people because the line became 20 km long and people couldn't shop anywhere.

I wrote so much about the work I did during my school years but so less about myself. So before I continue to my university years, I wanna write some words about my school years. I was from 5th class until high school graduation (12th class), and then even the first three years of university in Turkey. It was very different from Germany. Not only the topics in school and the teaching language but even how the school worked and how people acted was a whole new story for me. And the first döner I tried in Turkey was a big disappointment... That was my first cultural shock in my entire life.
My family already owned an apartment in Ankara and we visited there every summer so I already had some friends. To my luck, I even got to the same class as my best friend. We were neighbours and we two know each other since forever. That boy is in my very first memories. I don't remember the moment we first met because he was always there for me. And I should add that, even tho I was born in Berlin, my father was still studying in Ankara so I lived my baby years in Ankara. I think we moved to Berlin before I had my 4th birthday.
My friends helped with my adaptation to Turkey. And I enjoyed the school in Turkey more than the ones in Germany. There was a break after every class, the classes were much easier, the exams were much easier. I felt like a corrupted genius and never learned a day after school in my years of elementary school in Turkey. All my grades were top and I wasn't the only one, so I kinda knew it was more about the schools in Turkey being easy than me being a genius. But still, I enjoyed it. All I could think about was recess, playing football with my friends or playing other games.
And high school came with a solid wake up slape to Mr. Corrupted Genius Anıl Gökdemir. I scored 55% on my very first exam... It was barely over the limit. And my other two exams came under 45% which meant failure.
I was already too lazy to start to learn home and I couldn't really get along with my classmates because I was at the 5th best school of Ankara and everyone except me was focused on learning...
I found some like minded friends in 10th class because they mixed the classes.
I was only good at physics and geometry, the other classes bored me.
During 11th class, my mother made a deal with me, if I were to score a GPA of at least 70%, she would let me attend an event outside of our city. And I did it.
I did even better at 12th class and scored something over 85%, closer to 90%. But to be honest, our school supported 12th class students because higher GPA would increase our university acceptance points. So I took no pride in the certificate of success and tore it apart. That was a protest against the school system and against my mother, because they put more value into grades than reality. And I took pride in tearing that piece of paper apart.

My friends and me at elementary school. We in suites are 6th graders and the one in the blue uniform is in 5th.

we made a çiğ köfte party in 10th class. The boys served it with "a grain of love"
After graduating from high school, I went to Cyprus to study, North Cyprus, the turkish side. I studied 3 years and had to quit because of personal reasons. Those were interesting 3 years. I learned, studied, traveled, had fun and sometimes worked remotely as a translator.
But all the alone time I had there gave me time to explore myself again. I watched so many movies, so many series, I started to play Yu-Gi-Oh! again. I started gaming on my PC again. I wrote, I reconnected with old friends and I became a new man on that little island.
